In order to find out the possibilities of creating and implementing innovative and digital products in Latvian small and medium sized enterprises, Riga Technical University (RTU) on September 13th at The conference “Digitalizācija – kā paplašināt mazo un vidējo uzņēmumu iespējas Latvijas tautsaimniecības izaugsmes veicināšanai?”. Will take place at 12.00am. The conference will bring together high-level specialists from the academic enviroment, the public and private sectors, and it is organized by Riga Technical University (RTU) in the cooperation with the Ministry of Enviromental Protection and Regional Development, the Ministry of Economics, the Interdepartmental Coordination Center and the “Latvian Formula 2050” Association. The conference will also be broadcasted live.
The opening speeches of the conference will be given by the RTU Vice-Rector of Science - Tālis Juhna, the Minister of Enviromental Protection and Regional Development – Juris Pūce, proffesors of University of Latvia, Chairman of the Board of the “Latvian Formula 2050” Association – Mārcis Auziņš.
The RTU Vice-Rector of Science Tālis Juhna reflects : “The use of digital technologies increases the possibilities of any product to enter the market at a much higher speed. The speed of development of new products is especially important for small and medium sized enterprises. RTU is actively involved in the creation of new companies, attracting students and scientists, so we actively offer prduct development skills using information technologies, while changing the approach to education”.
The Minister of Enviromental Protection and Regional Development Juris Pūce points out : “The Digital Economy and Society Index developed by the European Commission shows that Latvia continues to rise in the indicators of online public services, but at the same time offers online sales of goods and services, which is a key factor in increasing business productivity. It is estimated that only 10% of small and medium sized enterprises still use e-commerce channels to sell their goods and provide services. The integration of digital technologies in enterprises creates preconditions for the growth of productivity and economy, and the knowledge about digital technologies and their usage are especially important for small and medium sized enterprises, as it is a way to maintain and increase their competitiveness”.
The assessment of “Desi” for 2019 shows little progess, for example, the field of Cloud services has improved. At the same time, Latvia is making efforts to use new technologies by investing in the “European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking” ,joining the “European Block Chain Partnership” and the AI Declaration. Initiatives have been launched to promote digital innovations and the use of digital technologies, as well as the establishment of competence centers on the directions of Latvias smart specialization strategies.
In the first part of the conference, in the institutional framework for digitalization and innovation would be presented by the representatives of the public administration, professional and academic organizations. Edmunds Beļskis, the Chariman of “Latvian State Radio and Television Center”( VAS «Latvijas Valsts radio un televīzijas centrs»), Ēriks Eglītis, the secretary of the Ministry of Economics, Juris Binde – the president of “Latvijas Mobilais Telefons”, and Liene Briede, the project manager of “RTU Dizaina Fabrika” would report a speech each. At the second part of the conference e, the representatives of the companies would present their solutions which have been succesfully implemented in Latvia. After the presentations an expert discussion would take place , the introductory words would be given by Ieva Tetere, Charman of the Board of “SEB banka”.
Information technology and business professionals, university students,lecturers, media representatives and others interested are welcome to join and participate in the conference.
The conference will take place at RTU Faculty of Architecture, Ķīpsalas Street 6.
